Monalisa

Round 6 of The Third Creation, released on 23 September 2002 — three weeks after PS2Room, and in the words of its own scrolltext “a demo from coders to coders”, meant to show where the engine had got to.

By then jfyeNG could read a good deal of a LightWave scene: motion paths, several objects, one camera, hierarchies, pivot points and null objects, with surfaces mapped planar, by UV or by environment, several to an object. It had its own memory, texture and file management. I reckoned the PlayStation 2 version was doing about 40% of what the PC version could do.

The scenes came from Fraa/Mandarine and Xbarr/Syndrome, the module player from Vzzrzzn — the piece that had been missing the round before — and the music, original this time rather than borrowed, from Med/Condense.

The sources did not ship, and the readme is honest about it: they would come out only once I was completely happy with them. The whole thing, as I put it at the time, was a “hey, I’m still there!” production.

Greetings went to LongChair, SG2, Vzzrzzn, Jules, Adresd, Struct, Sjeep and Dreamtime. Adresd and Tyranid entered the same round.
